Exhibit Details: Figuratively Speaking highlights three emerging artists who are using their creative voice to contribute to ongoing conversations of race and representation in contemporary art. The 21 featured works reveal figurative depictions of quiet moments, adolescence, thoughtfulness, heritage and historical influence. Through a variety of mixed media, each artist gives insight to complexities in current culture by creating individual narratives. The featured artists include Anthony Patterson (Durham, NC), Jabari C. Jefferson (Washington, DC) and Lamar Whidbee (Durham, NC).

Artist Talk + Reception: The Arts Center will host a reception for the February main gallery exhibit - honoring black history month. Visiting artists Anthony Patterson, Jabari C. Jefferson and Lamar Whidbee will each host artist talks beginning at 4:00 pm with the exhibit reception to follow at 5:30 pm. Heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and LIVE MUSIC will be provided!
