Additional Sporting Events

In addition to playing host to events such as regional and statewide tournaments, Greenwood has most recently become home to five triathlons throughout the year including two for children as well as three adult and youth events featuring Sprint, Olympic, and Half-Ironman distances.

The Greenwood Family YMCA hosts an entire weekend of triathlons each April featuring a Kids Triathlon on Saturday and a Sprint Triathlon the next day.

In June, The SC Festival of Flowers, in conjunction with the Greenwood Area Chamber of Commerce and Set-Up Inc., offers triathletes an excellent Olympic distance race at the Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area.

In early October, the Greenwood Kiwanis Club hosts a Kids Triathlon at Lander University, followed by the SC Half Triathlon race at Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area the next day.

The SC Half, which had over 400 competitors in 2006, is one of the fastest growing races in the Southeast.

The triathlons have become some of Greenwood’s major draws in visitor’s traffic and is expected to continue to increase in attendance and participation for many years to come.
