Federal Building receives Historic Award
The Federal Building, which now houses the Arts Center and the Arts Council of Greenwood County, 120 Main St., is recieved a Historic Preservation Honor Award Wednesday, March 10 from the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation.
Anne Craig, Arts Council executive director, was notified of the honor in February by Michael Bedenbaugh, Palmetto Trust executive director.
Presented during a ceremony at the Winyah Indigo Society Hall in Georgetown, the Federal Building’s award recognizes “successful and exemplary historic preservation projects around the Palmetto State.” No more than five Honor Awards are presented in one year.
Attending the presentation are Anne Craig, Arts Council executive director; Greenwood mayor Welborn Adams and Frank Wideman, president of the Self Family Foundation.
The Federal Building is an important Greenwood landmark and is a treasure in this community,” Craig said. "The building was lovingly restored for use by future generations. The Arts Council celebrates the adaptive reuse of this historic building by inviting the public to come in, enjoy the spaces and exhibits and to experience a variety of arts education programs.”
The Palmetto Trust is South Carolina’s only statewide partner with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Palmetto Trust promotes advocacy, education, preservation and networking pertaining to historic properties.
