The Robots Have Taken Over The Museum…..Technology is all around us including the innovative use of robots.  We picture robots in science fiction films but we already use some form of robotic technology in our lives such as automobile manufacturing or surgery or even space exploration.  It is an exciting age that we live in and one that The Museum chose as a focus for the current exhibit.  The Museum is pleased to announce this year’s Destination Exhibit: Robotic Carnival, Exploring Artificial Life, Movie Robotics, Service Robots, and Space Exploration.  The exhibit was designed by the organization, MRISAR, Institute of Science, Art & Robotics, LLC.  The family-owned and operated company creates exhibits that feature some of the latest technology.  These fun and educational exhibits help fund their latest research and development.  The organization has won a number of awards including the 2004 NASA Emhart Technologies, “Create the Future” contest.  Their traveling exhibits have been featured in museums, universities, and NASA funded exhibitions.

The Museum’s exhibit, Robotic Carnival features a number of fun, interactive robots.  One in particular was featured in the movie production by Newline Cinema called “The Last Mimzy”.  This exhibit features a set of 3 finger robot arms which the visitor must use joysticks to operate and move geometric objects.  In addition to the set of 3 finger robot arms, there is a rail robot arm, robot pets, life-size humanoid robot, planetary probe robot, tic tac toe robot arm, and a five finger robot arm.  Each robot requires the operator to maneuver the robots thru obstacles or to provide examples of robotic technology.  The exhibit also features a look at the nuts and bolts behind creating the robots with a display of tools and examples of the mechanics behind robots.  There is also a short film related to the making of the exhibit.

The exhibit will be on display July-October 15.  The Museum’s hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 10-5 p.m.  Admission prices are free to members, $5/adult, $3/senior citizens, and $2/students and children.  During the month of August, The Museum will also be open Tuesdays, 10-5 p.m.  The Museum will be hosting a special reception for the exhibit on Friday, August 6th, 5:30-7:30 p.m. with free admission to members.  Non-members must pay regular admission but it is sure to be a fun-filled evening.  This is the perfect time to become a member of The Museum because we have a number of programs coming up that you don’t want to miss.  Don’t forget that we host birthday parties as well as group tours at The Museum.  Please contact us for special rates.  The Museum is located at 106 Main Street, Uptown Greenwood.  Please call us at 864-229-7093.  Email is
